ABC picks up 'Sexy,' 'Gun'

Singer to direct 'Wives' pilot

Pilot pickup -- "Dirty Sexy Money" (nee "The Darlings"), a cross between "Dynasty" and "Six Feet Under," focused on idealistic lawyer Nick George, who ends up with the job of taking care of the legal -- and illegal -- needs of a wealthy, colorful Gotham family. Craig Wright ("Six Feet Under") wrote the pilot script and will exec produce with Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters") and Bryan Singer via Touchstone Television.
Pilot pickup -- "Judy's Got a Gun," an hourlong drama about suburbanite Judy Lemen, who has to balance being a single mom with her job as a crime-fighting detective. Robert and Michelle King ("In Justice") wrote and will exec produce; Stu Bloomberg also is on board as an exec producer. Touchstone Television is the studio behind the project.
Staffing -- Bryan Singer ("House") has formally signed on to direct the pilot for "Football Wives." He had been loosely attached to several projects, including "Wives," as part of a three-for-one deal with ABC (Daily Variety, Dec. 19). Marco Pennette wrote the pilot and is exec producing with Chris Brancato and Bert Salke.
