McDonough wears "Tin Man" badge in "Wizard" redo

By Kimberly Nordyke

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Neal McDonough has been cast in the Sci Fi Channel miniseries "Tin Man," a new take on L. Frank Baum's classic novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."

Kathleen Robertson and Raoul Trujillo also have been tapped for the tentatively titled six-hour series, joining Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming and Richard Dreyfuss.

The mini centers on DG (Deschanel), a young woman plucked from her humdrum life and thrust into the Outer Zone (a.k.a. the O.Z.), a world filled with wonder but oppressed by dark magic. Her journey leads her down the Old Road, where she is joined by Glitch (Cumming), an odd man missing half his brain; Raw (Trujillo), a quietly powerful wolverinelike creature longing for inner courage; and Cain (McDonough), a heroic former policeman (known in the O.Z. as Tin Men, for their tin badges) seeking vengeance for his scarred heart.

Ultimately, DG's destiny leads her to an emotional and terrifying showdown with the scintillatingly wicked sorceress Azkadellia (Robertson), whose ties to DG are closer than anyone could have imagined.

Dreyfuss will play a wizard known as the Mystic Man.

Production is set to begin this month in Vancouver with an eye toward a December premiere.
McDonough's credits include "Minority Report," HBO's "Band of Brothers" and "Flags of Our Fathers."

Robertson's credits include the films "Hollywoodland" and "XX/XY" as well as the IFC series "The Business," which she also executive produces.

Trujillo's credits include the films "Apocalypto" and "The New World" as well as TNT's miniseries "Into the West."
