LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Bernie Mac is working on a reality pilot for NBC with the executive producer of "Ugly Betty" and "The Office."
"Welcome to the Family" revolves around couples who are ready to take their relationship to the next level and get engaged. However, the spouses-to-be come from completely different religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Mac will narrate as the couples meet each other's families for the first time and break the news that they've gotten engaged.
The comedian will serve as an executive producer along with Ben Silverman, who called the concept "both intriguing and addictive."
"It's all about falling in love, family and learning how to accept someone despite cultural, economic or social differences," said Silverman, whose Reveille banner produces "Ugly Betty" for ABC and the U.S. remake of "The Office" for NBC.
Mac wasn't a stranger to the premise of "Family," having starred opposite Ashton Kutcher in "Guess Who," the 2005 comedy remake of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." He is currently in theaters with the race-based swimming drama "Pride."
